20th edition of the Montréal Architectural Heritage Campaign
MAISON COUP DE COEUR FOR 2010
MONTREAL, Nov. 12 /CNW Telbec/ - Helen Fotopulos, member of the Montréal Executive Committee responsible for culture, heritage, design and the status of women, today announced the winner of the Maison coup de coeur contest held as part of the Montréal Architectural Heritage Campaign 2010. The house that won Montrealers' hearts and received the most votes is located at 890, chemin du Bord-du-Lac, in the City of Dorval. The owners of the property were congratulated by Helen Fotopulos for their exemplary contribution to preserving architectural heritage in Montréal.
"Architectural treasures abound in the Montréal territory. These properties, including the one we are celebrating today, are witnesses of our past and of all those who have shaped our architecture and lifestyle. These treasures give Montréal a unique personality for all to discover, again and again. I would like to thank all property owners who are committed to preserving heritage, our partners, including Héritage Montréal, as well as the boroughs and related municipalities," said Helen Fotopulos.
The results of the vote were revealed as part of a ceremony held at the Youville Pumping Station of the Pointe-à-Callière Museum and attended by Marie Senécal-Tremblay, Executive Director, Heritage Montréal. The public was asked to vote for one of the five finalist homes pre-selected from among 24 winning properties of a 2010 Heritage Emeritus Award given by a jury of architecture experts. Some 15,000 votes were received this year.
This year's gem
This year's gem in the City of Dorval has been exceptionally well maintained and restored by its owners. The Second-Empire style residence was built in 1916. Rectangular in shape, the house features a four-sided gable roof, symmetrical openings, a door with rounded canopy and dormer windows with pediments projecting from the roof.
The other four finalist properties are located at 3920, boulevard Saint-Joseph (Lachine borough); 1290, chemin Caledonia (Town of Mount Royal); 1808-1810, rue Dézéry (Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough); and 1595, rue de l'Église (Saint-Laurent borough).
The owners of the finalist properties each received a commemorative plaque and a $200 gift certificate valid at Marché Bonsecours. The owners of the house that won Montrealers' hearts, the Maison coup de Coeur, also received a two-night stay at the famous Place d'Armes Hôtel in Old Montréal.
Participants in the contest had a chance to win prizes valued at $12,700: a two-night stay at the Place d'Armes Hôtel (valued at approximately $800); a LifebreathMD heat recovery ventilator (valued at $1,200); one of three Mvac central-vacuum cleaners (values at $900 each); a $3,000 gift certificate offered by Portes & Fenêtres Métropolitain, or a $5,000 gift certificate valid at one of the recommended participating CAA-Québec - Residential suppliers.
The Montréal Architectural heritage Campaign was introduced by the Ville de Montréal and Héritage Montréal Foundation 20 years ago. The La maison coup de Coeur contest is held in cooperation with Historia, La Presse and The Gazette.
