Few interested in windfall for their community
CALGARY, Oct. 13 /CNW/ - With just a few weeks to go, entries have barely trickled in for a $25,000 award designed to give Canadian communities a big boost. Based on the dramatically low number of entries for a $25,000 cash giveaway, Joey's Only Founder Joe Klassen believes there is little interest in applying for a windfall that could really make a difference in the winning community.
Joey's Seafood Restaurants has promised to give away $25,000 to a community revival project in celebration of it's 25th Anniversary, but to date there are just a handful of organizations interested enough to make the video application.
C'mon Canada, be a leader in your community and nominate a worthy cause.
"We want to celebrate our 25th year by giving back to the people in the towns and cities that have supported us and contributed to Joey's success. We're surprised at the current rate of entries and really don't understand the lack of response. The application process is straightforward and we believe that this initiative to revive a Canadian community is a great way to show our appreciation and to make a difference in a meaningful way," says Joey's Founder Joe Klassen.
Over the past 10 years Joey's has given nearly one million dollars to charity. "Our Community Revival Project is the first time weve invited Canadians to tell us where to designate our financial support. "I can also imagine everyone having a lot of fun putting their application together. The puzzler for me has been that not many Canadians seem to have taken this on," Joe Klassen adds.
The first step of the contest is to IMAGINE a project that could help revive a community, group, facility or charity and have a lasting benefit to others. Next, get the nominee's permission, prepare a short YouTube-type video, write a short story about why your project should win $25,000 cash and take a photo or two. Nominations will be received until midnight October 31st.
Then GET OUT THE VOTE! Online voting will take place between November 1 and November 30. The project with the most votes wins $25,000 and the chance to revive their Canadian community.
