25th Anniversary of Emergency Preparedness Conference Discusses Progress in Emergency Management
VANCOUVER, Nov. 5, 2012 /CNW/ - The three day 25th annual Vancouver Preparedness Conference starts today. As a premier partner of the conference, Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) is pleased to participate in this year's theme: progress over a quarter of a century and the future we need to make our communities more sustainable.
"The need for emergency management continues to increase as severe weather risks and losses continue to worsen. The Emergency Preparedness Conference is another example of the need for partnerships to build resiliency in our communities," says Lindsay Olson, Vice-President, BC, Manitoba and Saskatchewan with IBC.
IBC is committed to encouraging communities and individuals to adapt to severe weather and to minimize the impact of natural disasters. IBC partners with government and leading emergency management stakeholders to help inform Canadians about preparing for disasters. Consumer education and research have guided IBC's strategies for almost 50 years.
This year's conference will be held from November 6-8 at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre Hotel in downtown Vancouver. Some of the topics of the sessions include severe weather, adaptation to earthquake and flooding risks and long term housing challenges.
