30 Days to Legalization: Leafly to Delist Non-Licensed Retailers
TORONTO, Sept. 17, 2018 /CNW/ - In anticipation of recreational legalization, Leafly, the world's largest cannabis website with over 5.4 million users in Canada, today announced that it has informed customers that only provincially-licensed retailers, government retailers, and licensed producers will be listed on its platform and app, starting October 17, 2018.
"In the days, weeks and months following legalization it will be of the utmost importance that government and industry work together to not only eradicate the illicit market, but create a safe and legal path to purchase for consumers" said Jo Vos, Managing Director, Leafly Canada. "As the country moves to usher in recreational legalization, all Canadians can be confident in the online purchasing decisions they make through Leafly."
Leafly's mission is to help consumers make informed choices about cannabis and where to find it. The Canadian government has made clear that only licensed retailers and delivery services may advertise via technology platforms. Provincial governments are working diligently to process licenses for approved applicants, and Leafly is optimistic that it will be able to list more clients as the licensing process progresses.
Businesses that have already received their relevant government license and validated their status with Leafly will not see any changes to their accounts. For those pending licenses, Leafly will deactivate accounts, but store current information to enable partners to quickly and easily resume on the platform when they receive their license.
