À nous la scène! is a special treat for theatre lovers looking to enjoy the richness and originality of this unique range of performances. An absolute first, this summer in Montréal. It all starts on June 20, with truly exceptional works:
LA VAGUE PARFAITE by Guillaume Tremblay
Théâtre D'aujourd'hui: June 20 to July 10
A surf opera from the future that'll sun-kiss your soul. A lyrical comedy celebrating the superficial beauty of man and his capacity for both good and evil.
RÊVEURS DÉFINITIFS by Raphaël Navarro
Théâtre St-Denis 2: June 29 to July 29
Apparitions, levitations, transformations...a celebration of magic and wonder! Unfolding in a lavish setting, this cabaret is an ode to enigma and mystery, combining the refinement of new magic with the traditional art of illusion. Apparitions, levitations, and metamorphoses await you!
MULIAT by the Menuentakuan Productions Team
Théâtre d'Aujourd'hui: July 4 to July 15
With a liberating and biting sense of humour, this strong work of art bridges the gap between disparate communities living on the same land. Muliats (Montréal in Innu) describes the cultural shock of being young, Aboriginal, and living in Montréal. At first butting heads due to cultural differences, an Innu from Mashteuiatsh and an immigrant Montréaler learn to embrace the beauty of their differences and resolve their identity conflicts together.
MOLIÈRE, SHAKESPEARE ET MOI by Emmanuel Reichenbach
Théâtre du Rideau-Vert: July 4 to July 22
An historical-anachronistic comedy on an unknown part of Montréal's history…with little to no historical accuracy! This mad-cap comedy takes place in 1750, shortly before British rule in New France and casts a cheeky look on a pivotal moment in the history of Montréal and Canada. These pioneers of Montréal history will be played by a cast of renowned actors: Anne-Élisabeth Bossé, Carl Béchard, Isabelle Drainville, Mathieu Quesnel, Roger La Rue, and René Rousseau…and, for the first time, the TRV welcomes Simon Beaulé-Bulman, Chloé Barshee, and Philippe Robert.
MALIGNE by Noémie Caillault
Studio Hydro-Québec du Monument-National: July 7 to July 29
Noémie Caillault recounts with feeling and humour her battle with cancer. A touching play that shimmers with life. A One Woman Show that is both hilarious and deeply moving. Diagnosed with cancer at age 27, Noémie laughs at the aggressive invader, her doctors, her destiny, and herself. She recounts in her own words, her sincerity, her fragility, and her hilarious response to the strange cohabitation of life and death lurking within her.
DERNIER COUP DE CISEAUX by Paul Pörtner
Gesù: from July 11 to July 22
It's up to you to solve the crime! An interactive police comedy that holds the Guinness World Record for longest running production, with an audience of over 9 million worldwide to date! Behold, the first play where you are the hero, a play that pushes the boundaries of traditional theatre: a murder is committed each night and it's up to the audience to solve the crime!
IMAGINE-TOI! by Julien Cottereau
Gesù: July 11 to July 22
A play for audiences of all ages about the most beautiful aspect of humanity: our childhood sense of wonder. Julien Cottereau, mime and noisemaker for the Cirque du Soleil, moans, groans, whistles, grunts, and roars for over 90 minutes, mesmerizing the halls he graces with his presence and perfectly honed talent.
WHAT'S IN A NAME? by Mathieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellière
Segal Centre: July 9 to July 30
Storms gather on the horizon the moment we announce our baby's name…The Montréal première of the English adaptation of Le Prénom! tells the story of a casual dinner that rapidly devolves into a maelstrom of unbridled verbal jousting, where secrets are revealed and friendships put to the test, when the given name of a forthcoming child is revealed.
VICE & VERTU by Les 7 Doigts
Société des arts technologiques (SAT): July 10 to August 6
Turn back time to the 1940s and find yourself on the sin-ridden Main of the time! With 30 circus, theatre, comedy, and music-hall artists, Les 7 Doigts goes back in time to bring back the wild and ground-breaking years of Montreal's art scene, in an experimental work set in the heart of Saint-Laurent Boulevard, the Main. From striptease to protest, outdoors or immersed in the digital vault of the SAT, you'll find slapstick, charm, gangsters, and teetotalers, all key players in the birth of Montreal's cultural identity.
LUCRÈCE BORGIA by Victor Hugo, La Comédie-Française
TNM: July 25 to August 4
A rare and special occasion to see the legendary La Comédie-Française troupe performing a theatrical masterpiece. After a nine-year absence, the La Comédie-Française troupe is back in Montréal with one of Victor Hugo's greatest works, Lucrèce Borgia, which became part of their repertoire almost a century ago in 1918. This subversive and trailblazing tragedy tells the tale of the Borgias, and the two brothers, César and Jean, who kill each other for the love of their sister, Lucrèce.
BABY-SITTER by Catherine Léger
Théâtre La Licorne: July 25 to August 5
An in-your-face comedy that tackles sexism, an issue that just won't go away. A journey through the troubled waters of political correctness, rape jokes, and fake feminism. Written with a bold pen, this play casts a naked and scrutinizing eye on misogyny. With Isabelle Brouillette, David Boutin, Victoria Diamond, and Steve Laplante.
Theatre lovers can see all 11 plays with PASSEPORT (4 plays: $165.00 / three plays: $110.00), or à la carte, at www.lavitrine.com/event/anouslascene and at www.375mtl.com/anouslascene.
