Donations from Ontario and Alberta Seasons Retirement Communities
OAKVILLE, ON, July 3, 2018 /CNW/ - Seasons Retirement Communities, a senior living company operating 11 retirement residences in Ontario and nine retirement residences in Alberta, donates $40,000 to 20 food banks across both provinces this July.
"In the past, Seasons donated turkeys and hams to local food banks during the holiday months," says LeighAnne Voll, COO, Seasons Retirement Communities. "Upon learning that food bank donations drastically decline over the summer, we shifted our corporate giving efforts to help fight hunger at a time when donations are more urgently needed. We also want to use our platform to remind people that food insecurity exists year-round."
Seasons announced the food bank donation at Seasons Royal Oak Village alongside celebrity chef partners Michael and Anna Olson during its annual family barbecue on June 24, 2018.
"As residents, family and friends gathered to celebrate the tastes of summer, we thought it was a perfect opportunity to raise awareness about summer hunger and the importance of donating to food banks at this time," says Voll.
Each Seasons retirement home in Alberta and Ontario will donate $2,000 to a local food bank. There are currently 11 homes in Ontario meaning $22,000 will go to Ontario food banks. The remaining $18,000 will be donated to food banks near the 9 Seasons Retirement Communities in Alberta.
"On behalf of the provincial food bank network and those we serve, we would like to say thank you to Seasons Retirement for their partnership in addressing hunger in Ontario," says Carolyn Stewart, Executive Director, Ontario Association of Food Banks. "This support will go a long way in helping our network ensure that the 499,000 adults, children and seniors that we serve annually have ongoing access to nutritious food throughout the year."
