CALGARY, July 26, 2016 /CNW/ - On June 27, Earl Grey Golf Course hosted over 120 golfers and volunteers at the 65 Roses Ladies Golf Classic in support of Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
This was the 27th Annual tournament. This event has raised over one million dollars in that time that goes towards supporting valuable research and clinics that are providing a better quality of life for those living with cystic fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis is the most common genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults - there is no cure. There are approximately 4,000 Canadians (and approximately 300 Calgarians) battling this devastating disease every day. While the median age of survival has increased, 25 is still too young to be considered middle aged.
Guest Speaker Andrea Hamm, mother to 9 year old CF Warrior Owen Hamm, shared their experiences with CF. Owen proudly showed off his "Beads of Courage" with each bead representing a medical procedure, poke, treatment and hospital stay, on a string well over 3 feet in length, he is only 9. He is a charming and precocious child eager to make friends and share his story.
