The convenience retailer is offering deals on Slurpees, hosting a virtual block party, and is raising in-store donations for Food Banks Canada
VANCOUVER, BC, June 17, 2020 /CNW/ - Given physical distancing measures put in place to stop the spread of COVID-19, 7-Eleven Canada will not celebrate 7–Eleven Day in stores this year. 7-Eleven traditionally celebrates its birthday by offering free Slurpees to customers on July 11th. The 2020 edition of 7-Eleven Day will look a little different in order to prioritize the safety of team members, customers, and the neighbourhoods in which the stores operate. The 2020 edition of 7-Eleven is all about celebrating… at a distance.
"We'd love to welcome all Canadians to our stores to celebrate 7-Eleven Day, but it just isn't the responsible choice this year," said 7-Eleven Canada Vice President and General Manager Norman Hower. "This is the biggest day of our year, so we are disappointed to make the change, but we're excited about the ways we can celebrate responsibly, all month long."
Hot Canadian summers aren't the same without a Slurpee. Especially when the new and exclusive Slurpee flavour lineup includes Fanta Fruit Passion, Citrus Lemonade, Mountain Dew Blue Shock, Crush Lite Cream Soda and Sour Patch Kids Tropical Paradise Punch. Canada is the Slurpee Capital of the World, and that alone is reason to celebrate.
Even through a global pandemic, Canadians have several ways to get a great deal on their favourite beverage. Four (4) $1 Slurpee coupons will be deposited into the accounts of all 7Rewards Members on July 1st and will be valid all month long. Almost like a reverse Slurpee run, Canadians can have their Slurpee delivered to their homes this summer to celebrate, and get a Buy One, Get One (BOGO) Slurpee through their Uber Eats and Skip the Dishes apps from July 6-12.
Canadians have been challenged to stay home, and 7-Eleven wants to support their extended staycations. To encourage continued physical distancing, 7-Eleven is hosting a month-long virtual block party at home. Slurpee fans are invited to create and share #SlurpeeDancePartee videos on TikTok and Instagram. Those using the 7Rewards app can also try the new AR lens and dance with the dancing Slurpee.
Since 1969, it's been 7-Eleven's mission to make sure communities across Canada have the essentials and comforts they need. To further support the neighbourhoods impacted by COVID-19, 7-Eleven will match in-store cash donations up to $100,000 to Food Banks Canada with the goal of providing 500,000 meals to those in need.*
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, 7-Eleven has enhanced its safety standards, including implementation of new procedures for hygiene, handwashing, sanitation, and food handling. It also increased the frequency of cleaning high-touch surfaces, placed physical distancing floor markers in stores, and installed Plexiglass sneeze guards at the front sales counters.
7-Eleven has been an institution in Canada for more than 50 years. With the first Canadian store opening in Calgary, Alberta in 1969, the company now boasts 636 stores across the country. For the past 21 years, Manitoba has been recognized as the Slurpee Capital of the World, consuming more Slurpees per capita than any other place on the planet.
*Cash donations to Food Banks Canada at point of sale will be matched June through September, with a cap of $25,000 per month. More details will be available on 7-eleven.ca.
