TORONTO, May 5, 2017 /CNW/ - Following a five-ingredient Elimination Challenge, MASTERCHEF CANADA judges Michael Bonacini, Alvin Leung, and Claudio Aprile revealed that Miranda Wasstrom, a corporate safety administrator from Edmonton, Alta. would be the next home cook eliminated from the competition in this week's episode. With four home cooks now remaining, MASTERCHEF CANADA returns next week on Thursday, May 11 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CTV and CTV GO where the final four home cooks travel to a Ontario apple orchard for their next challenge..
On this week's episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA, the home cooks received a master class in salmon from the judges. Michael Bonacini, Alvin Leung, and Claudio Aprile each demonstrated their favourite cooking techniques – glazed, encrusted, and poached. After breaking down a beautiful, whole B.C. salmon, the Top 5 were given 45 minutes to create their own unique dish featuring one of the three techniques. At the end of the challenge, Barrie, Trevor, and Miranda were the three home cooks called up to present their dishes for tasting. The judges ultimately chose Miranda's surprisingly sophisticated and refined chili honey rhubarb glazed salmon.
In the Elimination Challenge that followed, the home cooks were tasked with creating a restaurant-quality dish using only five ingredients. As an advantage for having the winning salmon dish, the judges announced that Miranda would get to switch everyone's baskets and decide which ingredients they would have to work with. After an intense 45 minutes, and despite her advantage at the start of the Elimination Challenge, Miranda's plated raw flank steak fell short and the judges sent her home from the competition.
In the next all-new episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA, "Harvest Family Dinner" (Thursday, May 11 at 9 p.m. ET/PT), the final four home cooks are greeted with a surprise at a beautiful Ontario orchard. After being divided into two teams, they must create an elegant family dinner that showcases the autumn harvest and also displays how much they've grown during the competition. Back in the MASTERCHEF CANADA kitchen, the two members of the losing team face a difficult dessert Pressure Test.
The final four home cooks vying for the title of MASTERCHEF CANADA and the $100,000 cash prize are:
- Barrie McConachie, an employee relations consultant, from Vancouver, B.C.
- Mai Nguyen, a health and safety advisor, from Edmonton, Alta.
- Thea VanHerwaarden, a broker, from Vancouver, B.C.
- Trevor Connie, a plumber/gas fitter, from Edmonton, Alta.
