TORONTO, April 14, 2017 /CNW/ - An all-out egg battle poached another home cook's chance at the MASTERCHEF CANADA title when judges Michael Bonacini, Alvin Leung, and Claudio Aprile revealed that after earning her way back into the competition following MASTERCHEF CANADA: REDEMPTION, Alice Luo would once again be eliminated on this week's episode. The episode was dedicated to the memory of valued partner and friend Guy O'Sullivan, President and Founder of Proper Television and executive producer of MASTERCHEF CANADA who passed away earlier this week.
With six home cooks remaining, MASTERCHEF CANADA returns on Thursday, April 27 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CTV and CTV GO with an all-new episode featuring a special Restaurant Takeover celebrating the 30th anniversary of judge Michael Bonacini's iconic Auberge du Pommier, an Oliver & Bonacini restaurant.
On this week's episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA, previously eliminated home cook Alice Luo made a surprising return to the competition after winning the head-to-head challenge in the exclusive digital special MASTERCHEF CANADA: REDEMPTION. Alice rejoined the home cooks, all wearing black aprons, in the MASTERCHEF CANADA Kitchen where the judges informed them that they were all facing the possibility of elimination. To secure their safety, the home cooks had to compete in three gruelling Skills Tests of progressive difficulty after each round. The home cooks' survival in the competition rested in their ability to master one of the most basic ingredients – eggs. In the first round, the home cooks had only 20 minutes and one egg to make and present to the judges the perfect Scotch egg. At the end of the first round, it was Barrie, Aaron, and Thea that secured their safety in the competition and were sent up to the gallery by the judges.
With four competitors in the second round of the egg battle, the judges gave the home cooks just two eggs and 10 minutes to create a stunning eggs benedict topped with a velvety hollandaise sauce. At the end of the second round, Trevor and Mai came out on top and were sent up to the gallery, leaving Alice and Miranda to face off in the final round where one home cook would be eliminated. In the final round, Alice and Miranda were given three eggs and 30 minutes to make a delicate and savoury cheese soufflé. While both home cooks struggled with the challenge, Alice was ultimately eliminated from the competition for a second time.
In the next all-new episode of MASTERCHEF CANADA, "Auberge Anniversary" (Thursday, April 27 at 9 p.m. ET/PT), two teams face off in a special Restaurant Takeover celebrating the 30th anniversary of judge Michael Bonacini's iconic Auberge du Pommier, an Oliver & Bonacini restaurant. The team who fails to master the venue's sophisticated French cuisine is pushed to the limit in a multi-layered Pressure Test that features an aromatic North African classic.
The remaining six home cooks vying for the title of MASTERCHEF CANADA and the $100,000 cash prize are:
- Aaron Polsky, a director of operations, from Montréal, Qué.
- Barrie McConachie, an employee relations consultant, from Vancouver, B.C.
- Mai Nguyen, a health and safety advisor, from Edmonton, Alta.
- Miranda Wasstrom, a corporate safety administrator, from Edmonton, Alta.
- Thea VanHerwaarden, a broker, from Vancouver, B.C.
- Trevor Connie, a plumber/gas fitter, from Edmonton, Alta.
