A Hawkesbury teacher receives the CTF Special Recognition Award

OTTAWA, June 18, 2012 /CNW/ - A member of the Association des enseignantes et des enseignants franco-ontariens (AEFO) is the recipient of a 2012 Special Recognition Award bestowed by the Canadian Teachers' Federation (CTF). This award is presented annually to individuals for meritorious service to education and/or the teaching profession at the interprovincial, territorial, national or international levels. Nathalie Ladouceur-Thomas was presented with the award by CTF President Paul Taillefer during a meeting of AEFO's Provincial Council on June 16th, in Ottawa.

Mrs. Ladouceur-Thomas dedicates herself tirelessly to the success of her students and the vitality of the Franco-Ontarian community. At École secondaire catholique régionale de Hawkesbury, she was in charge of a program aimed at fostering cultural pride in young Francophones. As President of the Association canadienne-française de l'Ontario in Prescott-Russell since 2008, she has been involved in many francophone community events, namely the prestigious Banquet de la francophonie, an annual awards ceremony.

Mrs. Ladouceur-Thomas is also a dedicated union activist. In British-Columbia, where she taught for 10 years, she cofounded a mentorship program within her union. She was also Head of the union's Social Justice Committee, and an instructor for the Roots of Empathy program. She is presently an active member of AEFO's Eastern Ontario Catholic Unit and of the Provincial Committee on Womens' Leadership.

AEFO represents 10,000 teachers and education workers in Ontario's French-language elementary and secondary schools, both Catholic and public, and workers in other French-language establishments.
