A leading people culture is integral to our success: Ernst & Young
Firm named one of Best Workplaces in Canada for seventh consecutive year
TORONTO, April 19, 2012 /CNW/ - Listening to our people is vital to our ongoing commitment to maintaining a leading people culture, says Ernst & Young, one of the Best Workplaces in Canada for 2012.
"We continually strive to ensure Ernst & Young is the place the best people want to be — and where we all feel proud to work," says Stephen Shea, People Leader at Ernst & Young in Canada. "Communication and open dialogue are integral to our leading people culture; it's how we're able to empower our people, innovate and grow. If we attract and retain the best people — and invest in them — then we will deliver the best results for our clients."
Ernst & Young uses internal tools, such as a Global People Survey (GPS), to help identify what matters most to employees in their work environment. These touch points provide the firm with feedback from employees on strategy and leadership, quality, recognition and rewards, inclusiveness, development and corporate responsibility.
"Listening is central to the way we develop our people, and we only ask questions we can act on — meaning when our people send us their views, they know we are prepared to act on what they tell us," says Shea. "There are several ways in which we engage with our people, including focus groups, polls, face-to-face meetings, an ethics hotline, and surveys."
The firm also participates in an employment value proposition study, which benchmarks Ernst & Young's workplace offerings against other organizations. Ernst & Young in Canada scored in the top quartile, indicating that the firm's people priorities and approach of including, developing and engaging their people through communities, conversations, choices and celebrations accurately reflect what people want.
