The annual Ball for The Children's proves that dreams really do come true
MONTREAL, June 12, 2014 /CNW/ - Recalling the wonder and excitement of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, this year's Ball for The Children's to support the Montreal Children's Hospital, was held on May 22 at the historic Windsor Station. The event paid tribute to the classic children's story and its underlying message that for all children, there is no place like home.
The 2014 Ball for the Children's patron of honour was Karen Leggett, Executive Vice-President, Marketing & Corporate Strategy, and Member of the Office of the President at National Bank. Her leadership and unwavering commitment to sick children and their families helped the event raise $1,100,000.
The evening was also an opportunity for the Children's community to congratulate its 2014 Award of Excellence recipients, seven dedicated staff and volunteers who, through their work, have greatly contributed to helping support The Children's unique brand of cutting-edge pediatric care.
"Once again this year, our biggest supporters from the business community have shown their dedication and commitment to the hospital," says Marie-Josée Gariépy, President of the Montreal Children's Hospital Foundation. "Our patron of honour, Karen Leggett and her colleagues at National Bank, and their fellow Award of Excellence sponsors Global Montreal, Le Groupe Jean Coutu, the Gustav Levinschi Foundation, TransForce, and TD, as well as our other valued sponsors including Pfizer, Shire, Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, Bell, and CELEBRATIONS FX, all played an important role in helping us reach our fundraising goal."
The funds raised at this year's Ball for The Children's will go to the Healthy Kids Fund, which provides the hospital staff with the resources they need to meet the most urgent needs of patients throughout all sectors of the hospital, from the 70 ambulatory clinics with 120,000 patient visits, to the Emergency Department with 78,000 visits, to providing services for the 6,000 patients admitted each year. The Healthy Kids Fund also supports The Children's world-renowned researchers, who are working towards breakthroughs in areas as diverse as childhood brain tumours, diabetes and blindness, and ensuring that patients are diagnosed more quickly, treated more effectively and sent home earlier.
"National Bank's long-standing support of the Montreal Children's Hospital embodies perfectly our company's commitment to children and youth," says Ms. Leggett. "Young people represent our hopes and dreams for the future which is why we believe it's up to all of us to help the next generation develop to their fullest potential. Our organization is deeply committed to making a positive impact in the communities we serve and we firmly believe that investing in the Montreal Children's Hospital ensures a brighter and stronger future for us all. On behalf of National Bank's 20,000 employees, I'm very pleased we could be part of this important event for the Montreal Children's Hospital."
