MONTREAL, June 11, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Nearly 200 Reservists from 34 Canadian Brigade Group (34 CBG) got together on Sunday, 10 June at the Côte-des-Neiges Armoury in Montreal to mark the change of command of the formation.
Colonel Marc Richard finished his two years as Commander of 34 CBG to be relieved by Colonel Luis De Sousa, who assumes the command.
The 34 CBG is a formation of units of the Reserve Force of the Canadian Army. The brigade consists of 14 units, eight of which are located on the Island of Montreal including armored units, artillery, engineering and infantry. These units have contributed greatly to both domestic and expeditionary operations in recent years. At home, the 34 Brigade participated in OP PODIUM, which consisted of supporting security efforts during the Vancouver Olympics in 2010 as well as OP LOTUS during the floods in the Monteregie region in 2011. In foreign lands, reservists from 34 CBG greatly strengthened the elements of the Regular Force during the last decade as part of OP ATHENA, the Canadian combat mission in Afghanistan, which ended in summer 2011. Our reservists are called to continue their contribution as part of OP ATTENTION, the Canadian Forces mentoring mission in Afghanistan.
The 2000 reserve component of the 34 Brigade from all walks of life. These are above all citizens who have chosen to proudly serve in the Canadian Forces and to devote several hours per week and weeks per year of service with the Canadian Army Reserve and for their country.
