A new version of Pro Bono Québec's Boussole juridique - Modernized platform facilitates search for free or low-cost legal resources
MONTRÉAL, March 29, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Pro Bono Québec takes great pride in introducing this evening the new version of its boussolejuridique.ca platform with a search engine designed to facilitate access to a broad database of free or low-cost legal resources available in Québec. This fully modernized site will be unveiled in Québec City at the Jeune Barreau du Québec inter-professional networking cocktail reception, chaired by Alexandre Taillefer.
"The Boussole juridique is a gateway to our legal system, which is often viewed by the Québec public as restrictive and complex," says Nancy Leggett-Bachand, Executive Director of Pro Bono Québec. "The project succeeds in every respect in meeting a major challenge for the Québec legal community: access to the justice system. Now, a citizen facing a legal issue but lacking the means to pay for a lawyer in private practice can turn to our Boussole juridique to find community and government legal resources."
New features of the boussolejuridique.ca site
- Now available in both official languages.
- A more user-friendly platform with easy-to-understand, jargon-free, content: from the home page, citizens can easily find information regarding the four most popular/sought after legal areas: legal aid, legal information, labour standards and the Régie du logement (rental board).
- Resource search by geo-positioning using a map.
- Easy access by cell phone.
- Complete update of the directory of organizations providing free or low-cost legal services in every region of Québec.
The platform was first created by Pro Bono Québec in 2013 under the name votreboussolejuridique.ca with the aim of addressing the issue of access to justice.
According to the Enquête sur le sentiment d'accès et la perception de la justice au Québec (survey on the sense of access and perception of justice in Québec) commissioned by the ministère de la Justice du Québec in 2016, there is a high level of confidence in community justice organizations.1 "This survey shows that it is important to continue creating awareness of the free or low-cost legal resources available to Quebecers, and it was with this in mind that our Boussole juridique was modernized, making it possible to better help them," Ms. Leggett-Bachand adds.
"I want to recognize that this work is the result of in-depth discussions from committee members composed of representatives of the Barreau du Québec, the Chambre des notaires du Québec, the Court of Québec, the Société québécoise d'information juridique (SOQUIJ), of Éducaloi, the Commission des services juridiques, the Clinique juridique Juripop, and the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice," concluded Me Leggett-Bachand.
Production of the Boussole juridique was made possible courtesy of the financial participation of the Access to Justice Fund of the ministère de la Justice du Québec.
