A Real Sugar Shack is coming to Sugar Beach over the March Break

TORONTO, Feb. 22, 2016 /CNW/ - Toronto's waterfront is getting its first cabane à sucre next month, complete with maple taffy and traditional French Canadian music and food. The Sugar Beach Sugar Shack is a free event for families, visitors and anyone who loves maple syrup. This event is presented by Waterfront Toronto in partnership with Quebec Original with support from Redpath Sugar, PortsToronto, Pier 27 and Corus Entertainment.

Saturday, March 12, 12pm to 10pm

Canada's Sugar Beach – Jarvis and Queens Quay

WHAT

• Maple syrup cooking demonstrations and maple taffy samples
• Live French musical performances by Stef Paquette, Amélie et les Singes Bleus, Cindy Doire and Mélanie Brulée
• Join Choir! Choir! Choir! on March 12 for a massive outdoor sing-along
• Ice carving demonstrations
• Skating at nearby Sherbourne Common
• Food trucks serving Québécois favourites like tourtière and poutine
• Local restaurant and bar Against the Grain will open up its patio along the Water's Edge Promenade steps from Sugar Beach

GETTING THERE               

• Transit: 8 minutes from Union Station on the 6 Bay bus
• Cycling: Sugar Beach is accessible via the Martin Goodman Trail
• Driving: Parking will be available on site
• Sugar Shack Shuttle: Ride the sugar shack shuttle bus along with our travelling troupe of traditional French Canadian musicians. The shuttle will make stops at Union Station (123 Front Street), at the Distillery District (Mill Street and Trinity Street), and at Sugar Beach.

Minutes from the Central Waterfront, City Place, St. Lawrence and Distillery District neighbourhoods, Canada's Sugar Beach is part of the developing East Bayfront neighbourhood. This well-loved park is now the site of a planned annual winter festival. Launched by Waterfront Toronto, the Sugar Beach Sugar Shack is a free event, presented in partnership with Quebec Original with support from Redpath Sugar, PortsToronto, Pier 27 and Corus Entertainment.

Other nearby waterfront attractions include the Power Plant's Winter 2016 exhibition, family activities at Harbourfront Centre and the shops and restaurants of the nearby Distillery District.
