Almost $250,000 in cash donations and 67,560 kg of foodstuffs collected to battle hunger among 0-5 year olds across Greater Montreal
MONTREAL, May 17, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - This year, upwards of 20,000 toddlers age five and under will benefit from the success of the sixth annual Great Food Drive for Children, a campaign organized by Moisson Montréal and Moisson Rive-Sud in partnership with Provigo and Maxi. The money raised will be used to offer foodstuffs to community organizations with programs that provide food assistance to future mothers and young families. "This type of campaign makes all the difference for the mothers that will benefit from our services. Since we do not have to find the foodstuffs ourselves across our network, we can instead focus solely on our mission to help and support mothers to help their young children have a better start in life," said Jackie Demers Dt.P, Executive Director of the Montreal Diet Dispensary.
Executive Director of Moisson Montréal Richard D. Daneau was very pleased with the results of this year's campaign: "thanks to you, this will allow parents who carry the stress each day of not being able to adequately feed their children to get some relief and help them get back on their feet. It is with tremendous pride that we announce that this year's goal of $200,000 was surpassed by almost $50,000 in cash donations in addition to the 67,560 kg collected in foodstuffs - seven times more than our initial goal of 10,000 kg."
Equally impressed with the end result was Executive Director of Moisson Rive-Sud Dany Hétu who added: "once again, the general public and our partners answered the call this year and we could not be more thrilled by the generosity and solidarity shown over the past several weeks. And we would be remiss to not mention the immense support received from both the Provigo and Maxi banners and their in-store teams who were by our side throughout this campaign."
The contributions of Provigo and Maxi by the numbers:
- Over 168,000 containers of baby food donated in collaboration with Kraft Heinz Canada;
- Donation of a pallet of baby formula valued at $8,000;
- Over 300 lunches provided in collaboration with Pol-au-Boc for Children's Day held at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts;
- Over $51,000 in donations from clients and colleagues from 50 participating local Maxi and Provigo grocery stores in Montreal and the South Shore;
- A $50,000 corporate donation.
Moisson Montréal and Moisson Rive-Sud would also like to recognize the incredible support of actress and Moisson Montréal spokesperson Élise Guilbault, radio host of La soirée est (encore) jeune, Olivier Niquet, chef from Sushi à la maison, Geneviève Everell, and all chefs and celebrities who joined us as spokespersons and ambassadors of the Great Food Drive for Children.
