A statement from the Lieutenant Governor on the death of Polish President
Lech Kaczynski
TORONTO, April 12 /CNW/ - I was deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the airplane crash last Saturday that caused the deaths of President Lech Kaczynski, his wife, Maria, and all who were traveling with them to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre.
The loss of so many parliamentary, military and cultural leaders has struck a blow to the heart of the Polish people. To be faced with such unspeakable sorrow, particularly at this time of national remembrance for Poles around the world, is both a national and a human tragedy.
History has proven the strength and resilience of the Polish people. I have no doubt this heart breaking turn of events will reinforce those qualities, as the rest of the world draws together with Poland to mourn.
As The Queen's representative in Ontario, I send my heartfelt condolences to the people of Poland and to the Polish-Canadian community in Ontario, which has contributed so much to our province.
My thoughts and prayers go out to you, and to the families of those who lost their lives.
