As Canada Day nears and we celebrate the birth of our wonderful country, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the many Canadians from coast to coast to coast that have helped make Home Hardware a true Canadian success story. It is because of your support that we are celebrating our 50^th year in business - we truly could not have come this far without you.

Like you, Home Hardware prides itself on being Canadian. We are 100% Canadian owned and operated and take great honour in serving communities, small and large, across Canada. For the past 50 years, you have made our Home a part of your home and for this we are truly grateful.

Our beginnings are humble and when we first started, never did we imagine we would spread from the quaint village of St. Jacobs, Ontario to the farthest reaches of Canada. But, with your help, we have become Canada's largest independent home improvement cooperative with close to 1,100 stores supplying Canadians from coast to coast to coast with over $5.4 billion in products for their renovating, decorating and entertaining needs. That's a big feat!

You recognize us by the double H logo, but you may not be familiar with our story.
Home Hardware Stores Limited was co-founded in 1964 by Walter J. Hachborn and Henry Sittler. After seeing many independent Dealers struggling to compete against the large corporate controlled chains, Walter convinced 122 independent Dealers to form a cooperative that would allow them to cut out the middleman, pool their buying power and build competitive, independent businesses. Walter's vision and dedication to the independent remain as relevant and important today as they did in 1964.

Home Hardware was founded on the belief that the best people to serve the needs of a community are those living within it. As independent entrepreneurs, Home owners not only have the best knowledge of the people that make up their communities but the freedom to meet their needs through localized product selection and personalized service. This core advantage sets us apart from our competitors and is reflected in our mission of Home Owners helping homeowners with Expert Advice.
