MONTREAL, Nov. 14, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) congratulates engineer Julie Payette for the recognition she will receive today at the Tribute to Great Montrealers reception. The Canadian astronaut, who is now Chief Operating Officer of the Montreal Science Centre, is one of four recipients who will be honoured tonight by the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.
"Ms. Payette has had an extraordinary career and her achievements, which were made possible by her iron will, unmatched expertise and excellent communication skills, inspire all Montrealers. Her career is inspiring to the entire profession and especially to the 8,000 women engineers in Québec who work in all fields of engineering and directly contribute to society's well-being," stated Daniel Lebel, Eng., FEC, PMP, President of the OIQ.
The OIQ is particularly happy that Ms. Payette's new duties at the Montreal Science Centre allow her to dedicate all of her energy to helping young people discover their calling in science and technology. For the third consecutive year, the OIQ is a sponsor of the Engineering Zone at the Eurêka! Festival, an initiative of the Montreal Science Centre.
The Tribute to Great Montrealers reception is an annual event that recognizes the outstanding achievements of luminaries in economic, cultural, scientific and social life who have contributed to Montreal's development and reputation.
