Electronic medical record systems certified for privacy, security and interoperability
TORONTO, March 29, 2012 /CNW/ - Accuro® EMR, a software product developed by OptiMed Software, and PS Suite® Software, developed by MD Physician Services Software Inc., have successfully achieved electronic medical record (EMR) certification, announced Richard Alvarez, President and CEO, Canada Health Infoway (Infoway).
Infoway developed EMR certification in concert with its jurisdictional partners, to ensure that EMR solutions conform to national and international standards for privacy, security and interoperability.
"I am pleased to announce both Accuro® EMR and PS Suite® Software have been granted Infoway certification, an achievement that dovetails with Infoway's mandate that authorized health care providers have access to the right patient information at the right time, through secure connections to electronic health record systems," said Alvarez.
In order to achieve certification, both solutions underwent assessment processes to demonstrate that they met or exceeded the national requirements for privacy, security and interoperability set by Infoway Certification Services.
"This certification recognizes the emphasis that MD places on quality in terms of maintaining a high level of privacy and security within PS Suite Software, and our intent to continue to develop the product nationally to support interoperability and integration with provincial EHR systems," says Mike Gassewitz, president of MD Physician Services Software Inc. "We know that this integration is essential to comprehensive patient information, which will enable physicians to make informed decisions. We are committed to putting physicians first, and make it a priority to lead the development of EMR technology."
"This certification demonstrates our strong commitment and continued investment in supporting the Canada Health Infoway mandate. Supporting over 9,000 physicians across Canada, the certification is welcome news and affirms QHR as a market leader in the EMR industry in Canada," said Al Hildebrandt, CEO, QHR Technologies Inc.
An electronic medical record (EMR) is an office-based system that enables a health care professional, such as a family doctor, to record the information gathered during a patient's visit. This information might include a person's weight, blood pressure and clinical information, and would previously have been hand-written and stored in a file folder in a doctor's office. Eventually the EMR will also allow the doctor to access information about a patient's complete health record, including information from other health care providers that is stored in the EHR.
Infoway's strategic efforts, working with provinces and territories, to hasten EMR adoption and use at the point of care in community and out-patient care settings, leverage and connect to the work that has already been done to build jurisdictional electronic health record systems that allow authorized clinicians access to key information about their patients' health histories, such as medication profiles.
Infoway Certification Services provides a national process to certify trusted, standards-based health information solutions. It offers pre-implementation certification for the following technology classes:
- Consumer Health Application
- Consumer Health Platform
- Diagnostic Imaging
- Drug Information System
- Electronic Medical Record
- Immunization Registry
