Player outscores challengers for Championship Title, Trophy and $7,000 Prize
TORONTO, May 17, 2016 /CNW/ - After four days of Triple World Scores and intense word play, Adam Logan, a 41-year-old mathematician from Ottawa, defeated several top competitive SCRABBLE players and spelled his way to the top to defend his title and be crowned the 2016 Canadian National SCRABBLE® Champion.
Logan beat Jason Leong, a 31-year-old attorney from Vancouver, in the exciting best-of-five finals in three straight games with scores of 549–493, 379–370 and 461-437, playing weird and wonderful words along the way such as DRAGONET, CHUFA and CRYOLITES.
The Canadian National SCRABBLE® Championship, the ninth since its inception in 1996, brought together the top 52 elite SCRABBLE® competitors from across the country. The event took place in the Piccadilly Room at The Bond Place Hotel in Toronto between Friday, May 13th and Monday, May 16th.Along with the title of Canadian Champion and bragging rights and possession of a trophy, participants played for a $7,000 prize, and the chance to represent Canada in international competition.

The Canadian National SCRABBLE® Championship was organized by Toronto SCRABBLE Club Director John Chew (also the co-president of the governing body for competitive SCRABBLE play, the North American SCRABBLE Players Association, NASPA), and sponsored by game manufacturer Hasbro Canada Corporation. NASPA's website hosted the event's live coverage, including statistics, photographs and interactive games, attracting millions of page hits over the weekend.
