OTTAWA, Nov. 26, 2012 /CNW/ -
The issue:
Energizer Personal Care has expanded its recall of continuous spray sun care products (see list below) in Canada because there is a possibility that these sunscreens could ignite on the skin if the consumer comes into contact with an open flame or spark before the spray has completely dried. One such case has been reported in Canada and four in the U.S.
Consumers should also be aware that other spray sun care products may pose similar risks and as such, they should not use any continuous spray sun care products in the presence of a flame or spark, or, while smoking.
Who is affected:
Anyone who may have purchased any of the affected products manufactured by Energizer Personal Care.
What consumers should do:

What Health Canada is doing:
Health Canada will continue to monitor Energizer Personal Care's recall of its affected sun care products. The company has sent a letter to retailers asking them to stop selling the products
Background:
On October 19, 2012, Energizer Personal Care announced its recall of two continuous spray Banana Boat sun care products: Banana Boat Ultra Defense SPF 60 Spray, 180mL and Banana Boat Sport Performance SPF 60 Spray, 180mL.
The original recall has been expanded to include two additional Banana Boat products: Banana Boat Sport Performance SPF 30 Spray Sunscreen, 180mL and Banana Boat Ultra Defense SPF 30 Spray Sunscreen, 180mL. A fifth affected product, which was previously sold in Canada, has also been identified: Banana Boat Sunscreen Oil Spray SPF 15.
According to the company, the valve on the dispenser of these products delivers more spray than typical for a continuous spray sunscreen. As a result, the sunscreen takes longer to dry on the skin, creating the potential for the sunscreen to ignite on the skin if it comes into contact with an open flame or spark before it dries.
