ADVISORY: Toronto Hydro workers voted 98% for strike, will stage information picket
TORONTO, April 21, 2016 /CNW/ - Pledging that they won't sell out the next generation, members of The Society of Energy Professionals' Toronto Hydro Local voted 98% in favour of a strike last week. These workers will stage an information picket at three locations tomorrow morning to educate the public on the issues it faces at the bargaining table.
Management is seeking to eliminate retirement benefits and slash parental and family leave for all new hires.
The Society of Energy Professionals represents all non-management engineers at Toronto Hydro. Their roles include building and maintaining key infrastructure like hydro vaults, polls and wires that facilitate power to every home and business in Toronto, enabling new buildings like condos and business towers to access the power grid and performing integral work to oversee the smooth operation of Toronto's energy system.
The primary location of the picket will be 14 Carlton Street just east of Yonge Street.
