MONTRÉAL, May 10, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Aéroports de Montréal (ADM) today announced its financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2018 during its Annual General Meeting. Passenger traffic continued to rise sharply and the ADM's EBITDA (earnings before financial expenses, taxes and depreciation of property and equipment) climbed 7.9% compared with the same quarter in 2017.
Highlights – passengers
- During the first quarter of 2018, passenger traffic at Montréal-Trudeau increased by 7.0% over the same period in 2017, for a total of 4.4 million passengers.
- The three sectors – domestic (+3.6%), transborder (+9.3%) and international (+8.4%) - contributed to the growth.
Financial results at a glance
- EBITDA was $65.4 million in the first quarter of 2018, up $4.8 million, or 7.9%, from 2017. Like many companies, ADM considers EBITDA to be the best indicator of financial performance.
- ADM's capital investments totalled $24.3 million in the first quarter of 2018 ($30.5 million for the corresponding period in 2017). Investments in the airports were funded by cash flow from operating activities, including airport improvement fees.
- Consolidated revenues amounted to $145.5 million in the first quarter of 2018, an increase of $10.3 million, or 7.6%, for the corresponding period in 2017. This increase is mainly due to the increase in passenger traffic.
- Operating expenses for the first quarter were $53.7 million, an increase of $4.3 million, or 8.7%, over the same period of the previous year. This difference is mainly due to the increase in operating costs related to winter conditions, spending on measures to ensure better fluidity of the passenger process, and the implementation of security measures since April 2017.

Recently implemented initiatives
Over the past few months, various measures were deployed to benefit travellers:
- New air routes were announced from Montréal for the summer season including Bucharest, Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Victoria. The long-awaited Montréal-Tokyo link will have its inaugural flight on June 1st. A record number of 89 destinations are now served internationally.
- Since the beginning of April 2018, Urgences-santé paramedics have had a permanent presence at Montréal-Trudeau, reducing intervention times in the terminal. These dedicated resources can perform a wide variety of paramedical care.
- On April 8, Aéroports de Montréal held the 6th edition of its Premium Kids event. This day allowed about 100 children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or functional limitations to become familiar with the airport process and reduce their fear of flying.
- Aéroports de Montréal presented its vision for responding to growth challenges. The transformations will be significant at Montréal-Trudeau, with several projects aimed at adding capacity to infrastructure, particularly in the drop-off area and the multi-level parking. A first phase of work will require investments of $2.5 billion over 5 years.
