Aerospace Week in Montréal - Québec aerospace cluster Aéro Montréal kicks off third Global Supply Chain Summit

MONTRÉAL, March 30, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The Global Supply Chain Summit - Aerospace began today at Montréal's Palais des congrès. Organized by Aéro Montréal, Québec's aerospace cluster, in collaboration with BCI Aerospace and the contribution of CGI and the NSERC, this third edition is being held during Aerospace Week in Montréal, which also includes Aéromart Montréal on April 1 and 2.

This industry initiative aims to help SMEs differentiate themselves from the growing competition by enhancing the performance of their supply chain. The Summit will bring together more than 400 industry representatives from Québec, Canada and internationally - from SMEs to major OEMs, policy makers and journalists.

The program includes conference and workshops that will address major changes that are under way in the aerospace industry, including the increasing preference by OEMs to work with Tier 1 integrators.

In light of the current environment and the federal government's new defence procurement strategy, the first day of the Summit is devoted to this aspect of the supply chain. "Canada's defence industry is a cornerstone of security and economic growth in Canada," notes Suzanne M. Benoît, President of Aéro Montréal. "We have an important role to play in ensuring local companies better understand the special conditions of this market and are better able to exploit its full potential. More than ever, it is important to reposition Québec and its companies as vital players in the sector."

The Summit reflects Aéro Montréal's drive to support companies, especially SMEs, in the development of new markets and provide the tools they need to continue their growth.

During the Summit, 14 SMEs enrolled in the MACH Initiative, a supplier development program, who have raised their level of maturity will receive their performance labels. The presentation will be made by Jean Séguin, Assistant Deputy Minister, Commerce extérieur, Ministère de l'Économie, de l'Innovation et des Exportations.
