Government of Canada helps to prevent and reduce homelessness in Canada
LAC LA BICHE, AB, Oct. 12, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Three families at risk of becoming homeless after fleeing abusive situations will soon have an affordable place to call home. The Honourable Jean‑Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, made the announcement today.
A federally owned property in Lac La Biche, Alberta, that is no longer in use, will be provided for a nominal fee of $1 to Hope Haven Society. The two duplexes were originally used by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as employee housing and are in good condition. The property will provide three housing units for families and another unit for outreach services for the residents and community.
The property will be transferred through the Surplus Federal Real Property for Homelessness Initiative (SFRPHI), which makes surplus federal real properties available to communities for projects that provide stable living arrangements for homeless individuals and families and those at risk of becoming homeless.
