AFNQL Acknowledges the 25 Years of Service of Ghislain Picard as Chief of the Regional Organization Français
WENDAKE, QC, Feb. 3, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - The Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador (AFNQL) acknowledged the 25 years of service of Ghislain Picard as Chief of our regional political organization this week. The Chiefs in Assembly first elected Ghislain Picard in 1992.
During the meeting of the Chiefs in assembly held this week in Wendake, many Chiefs and leaders highlighted the dedication, tenacity, diplomacy, respect and the dignity that characterize Chief Ghislain Picard.
Ghislain Picard is a member of the Innu community of Pessamit. Pessamit's Chief René Simon spoke on behalf of the Innu Nation: "He was able to guide and support First Nations in Quebec and Labrador for the past 25 years. The Innu Nation should be inspired by his approach and ability to bring together as many leaders over such a long period. Tshinushkumiten (thank you) on behalf of the Innu Nation and the community of Pessamit".
Chief Jean-Charles Piétacho of the Innu community of Ekuanitshit also honored him: "Ghislain Picard's contribution to the Innu and other First Nations' public life is major. From the onset of his career to this day, he has always shared the spirit that sustains the Innu Tepentamun (Innu vision of self-determination) in sometimes difficult and changing environments. His determination always inspires me as well as the new generation of First Nations. Congratulations!"
Before taking on the function as Chief of the AFNQL, Mr. Picard worked for more than ten years in the field of communications. He is one of the founding members of the Société de communication Atikamekw - Montagnais (SOCAM), a society that produces radio programs in Indigenous languages.
