Agricultural manufacturers applaud federal government for CPTPP ratification bill, call for quick implementation
REGINA, Sept. 20, 2018 /CNW/ - Agricultural Manufacturers of Canada (AMC) applauds MPs for passing Bill C-79 at second reading and encourages Parliamentarians to quickly ratify and implement the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
The agreement will provide access to 10 critical markets, including Australia, Brunei, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam.
"This represents a huge opportunity for Canadian farmers and agricultural equipment manufacturers. Shortline manufacturers help keep rural economies strong, employing approximately 12,000 people primarily in communities less than 10,000. AMC fully supports the quick implementation of the CPTPP to strengthen trade with key international markets and increase export opportunity within the industry," says Richelle Andreas, Chair of AMC's Board of Directors.
Canadian agriculture equipment manufacturers export $1.9 billion worth of farm equipment to over 150 countries and meet the demands of Canadian farmers who grow crops and raise livestock in harsh conditions hence making Canadian-made farm equipment some of the best in the world. Implementing the CPTPP will further the industry's growth and success.
