--Canadians now make their culinary vote count on new eatandvote.com site--
TORONTO, Aug. 6, 2013 /CNW/ - Canada's award-winning inflight magazine, Air Canada's enRoute www.enroute.aircanada.com is pleased to announce the launch of the People's Choice Award, a first in the magazine's twelve-year history of its esteemed national restaurant rankings, Canada's Best New Restaurants. In partnership with the lead sponsor of the 2013 awards, Jaguar Land Rover -- one of the world's premier manufacturers of luxury vehicles -- enRoute today is proud to launch the microsite www.eatandvote.com (www.mangervoter.com) designed to encourage Canadians from coast to coast to vote for their favourite restaurant from a list of 35, nominated by a highly respected volunteer judging panel of Canada's leading food and hospitality industry leaders.
Air Canada's enRoute magazine seeks out new restaurants open during the past year that advance the Canadian culinary identity; they are places where the overall dining experience will have a lasting and significant impact on our restaurant culture. The panel's list of 35 restaurants has been visited and judged anonymously by international food and wine writer, Andrew Braithwaite. Readers may vote to win a trip to the Gala event unveiling the Top Ten and People's Choice award winners in November in Toronto, and the use of a Jaguar or Land Rover during their stay. Additional information about the criteria, judging panel, nominated restaurants and contest rules may be found online.
With the goal of showcasing the best and brightest of the past year, the magazine's 35 nominees include:

"The addition of the first People's Choice Award allows for Canadians from coast to coast to voice their opinions. Given we are a nation of travelers with discerning taste, the Awards are an ideal fit for both our brand and our customers who enjoy traveling in style. We look forward to honouring the Top Ten winners and the People's Choice winner with a gala celebration this fall," he added.
"We were looking for a way to expand the impact of our hotly anticipated Top Ten list of Canada's Best New Restaurants, especially since we find many more worthy restaurants each year across the country," said Ilana Weitzman, editor in chief, enRoute magazine. "In partnership with Jaguar Land Rover, this gives the magazine a way to let readers know about all 35 nominated restaurants that our writer visited on his journey. This has been a great year for restaurant openings, so we're excited to see which chef nabs the popular vote," Ms. Weitzman added.
Readers will continue to find the Top Ten list of Canada's Best New Restaurants in the November issue of Air Canada's enRoute magazine, encouraging travelers to discover the latest trends in Canadian dining. As of November 1, readers can download the updated enRoute Eats app, which includes details of this year's Top Ten restaurants and previous years' winners, along with enRoute-recommended restaurants across the country.
"It was a marathon journey across the country, and by the end we'd discovered some great new Canadian talent and confirmed our panel's endorsements," said Andrew Braithwaite. "The food scene in Canada is really humming right now, and we're so excited to share the story of this year's contenders with enRoute readers and the rest of the world."
