Air Liquide supplies oxygen and equipment to temporary hospitals built for patients affected by COVID-19 in Ontario Français
MISSISSAUGA, ON, April 21, 2020 /CNW/ - In response to needs driven by the COVID-19 pandemic, Air Liquide teams in Canada have quickly mobilized to equip temporary hospitals built to support and treat COVID-19 patients in Ontario. In April, Air Liquide, in collaboration with local hospitals, contractors and engineers, helped open three temporary hospitals in Ontario: Joseph Brant in Burlington, Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga and Owen Sound Hospital in Owen Sound.
Air Liquide provided the entire liquid oxygen supply system consisting of bulk tanks, vaporizers, regulating stations, concrete and steel pads at the three facilities. Additionally Air Liquide will supply medical liquid oxygen to support the hospital ongoing needs during this pandemic.
All three hospitals are building step-down centers for lower-criticality COVID-19 patients, both to isolate these patients outside the hospital and to free up beds in intensive care units within the main hospitals. Each of the centers is temporary and has the capacity to assess and provide care for approximately 80 patients at any one time.
The Joseph Brant Hospital and the Trillium Health Mississauga hospitals are located on the hospitals' respective parking lots, while Owen Sound opted to set up their temporary hospital in the local ice hockey arena to take advantage of the existing facility and avoid building a new structure. All are temporary solutions and will be dismantled after the pandemic passes.
Chris Mendonça, Vice President, Air Liquide Healthcare, Canada, said "We are committed to supporting our communities through this crisis. The quick transition of these facilities to temporary hospitals is in process and Air Liquide teams mobilized to ensure timely completion to aid in their commissioning. We are proud that as a business we can support such critical initiatives as supplying medical oxygen to those affected by COVID-19. It's our employees' collaboration with local hospitals and their unwavering dedication that have made this possible."
