AJAC 2017 EcoRun: Ottawa – Montreal – Quebec City
The sixth annual AJAC EcoRun continues east for annual green vehicle drive
The EcoRun is an annual AJAC event that shows off a variety of eco-friendly vehicles, which include pure electrics, plug-in and conventional hybrids, hydrogen fuel cells, diesel-fuelled powertrains and highly-efficient gasoline options. The purpose of the EcoRun is to help inform consumers of these alternative options, as well as providing accurate road testing fuel economy numbers. There's no limit to the size of the vehicles showcased, as they range from subcompacts to pickup trucks. These new vehicles are driven on real-world road conditions in order to fully test for fuel efficiency and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.
TORONTO, June 1, 2017 /CNW/ - The sixth edition of the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada's (AJAC) EcoRun is only two weeks away with 19 vehicles ready to hit the road.
For 2017, the EcoRun will start its journey where it left off last year, in our nation's capital of Ottawa. On June 15, opening ceremonies will be held at Parliament Hill with delegates, sponsors and media from across the country in attendance. A focus during the ceremony will be on the latest fuel-efficient and eco-friendly vehicles in the market, as well as the growing electric infrastructure being built in Ontario and Quebec.
The drive will start in Ontario, but the majority of its 670-kilometre drive will take place in the province of Quebec. The featured stops will be Hawkesbury, Saint-Jovite, Sainte-Adele, Montreal, Joliette, Trois-Rivieres and Deschambault before concluding in Quebec City.
Each stop has been strategically chosen for its existing charging infrastructure, as well as the scenery and activities offered. A few highlights include a stop at the historical Le Chenail cultural centre in Hawkesbury, the Hydrogen Research Institute of the University of Quebec in Trois-Rivieres, and a tour of the AddEnergie office in Quebec City.
Driving the vehicles during the EcoRun will be some of the top automotive journalists in Canada from AJAC. In addition, they will be covering the event for various automotive outlets that include the Toronto Star, National Post, Le Guide de l'auto, Auto Trader and CAA. As always, the event will be capped off with the unveiling of the Canadian Fuels Association Green Jersey winner – awarded to the most eco-friendly driver throughout the event.
"As the voice of the transportation fuels industry in Canada, the Canadian Fuels Association is pleased to be involved with AJAC's EcoRun and sponsoring the Green Jersey," said Peter Boag, President and CEO, Canadian Fuels Association. "Efficient vehicles and efficient driving are essential to the future of energy-wise transportation, and both elements come together at EcoRun. We look forward to once again awarding the Green Jersey to the most efficient driver, this time in Quebec City."
The sixth edition of the AJAC EcoRun is made possible thanks to the help of our partners, Natural Resources Canada, the Canadian Fuels Association, AddEnergie, Michelin North America (Canada) Inc., and Meo Electric.
