MISSISSAUGA, ON, Dec. 2, 2014 /CNW/ - Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) today announced its win for the brand new 2015 Subaru Legacy as AJAC's (Automobile Journalists Association of Canada) Best New Family Car under $30K.
The Legacy – offering the dependable soul of a Subaru in a mid-size sedan – beat out the Chrysler 200 and Toyota Camry to win the category and will continue on to compete for overall Canadian Car of the Year. The winner will be announced on press day at the Canadian International AutoShow, held in Toronto in mid-February.
AJAC's Canadian Car of the Year Awards (CCOTY) program includes real-world driving on public roads in order to provide consumers with sound, comparative information on vehicles that are new to the market. Journalist evaluations are based on detailed criteria, including everything from safety features to cargo capacity, in order to select the best new vehicles in various categories. The goal is, ultimately, to provide highly relevant consumer-driven information for Canadian shoppers to take with them in the marketplace.
"The Japanese-engineered Subaru Legacy rewards drivers with engaging performance, a high level of driving comfort and outstanding safety performance," said Shiro Ohta, chairman, president and CEO of Subaru Canada, Inc. "I'm pleased that this testing-based program has named our Legacy as a winner in its category and among a handful of top-scoring finalists competing for the overall honour of Canadian Car of the Year."
Like all Subaru models, the 2015 Legacy is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety TOP SAFETY PICK and models equipped with its optional EyeSight preventative safety technology have earned a superior rating and TOP SAFETY PICK PLUS award.
The all-new 2015 Subaru Legacy delivers enhanced standout design, interior refinement and safety technology along with one of the roomiest interiors in the midsize sedan segment. It's also one of the only offered with All-Wheel Drive as standard. The 2015 Legacy continues Subaru's safety leadership with EyeSight offered across more trim levels and by introducing an available rear radar system that supports new driver-assistance technologies. The EyeSight driver-assistance system – available on 2.5i Touring Package models for the first time – integrates Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking, Pre-Collision Brake Assist, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Lane Sway Warning, Vehicle Lane Departure Warning and a Lead Vehicle Start Alert.
In the Best New Family Car category, the mid-level Subaru Legacy 2.5i Touring Package with Technology Option and optional Lineartronic CVT is priced exceptionally well at $28,995 with safety features not usually found in this segment. The 2015 Legacy maintains a dimensional footprint similar to the model it replaces, but improves visibility and fuel economy.
The 2015 Legacy 2.5i is powered by a double-overhead camshaft (DOHC) 2.5-litre SUBARU BOXER engine that first debuted in 2013, but now receives numerous enhancements for lighter weight, improved efficiency and quieter operation. Power has increased slightly to 175 horsepower and peak torque remains at 174 pound-feet but is spread over a broader engine speed range for more responsive performance. A 3.6-litre engine is also available on select Legacy models.
Active Torque Vectoring, which was first introduced on Subaru's high-performance 2015 WRX and WRX STI is also standard on the 2015 Legacy. Active Torque Vectoring is an enhancement of the Vehicle Dynamics Control that can apply brake pressure to the inside front wheel to facilitate more neutral cornering.
This new Legacy also offers new levels of interior refinement. A combination of new soft-touch materials and significantly upgraded entertainment features give the Legacy a more premium feel.
Some of the standout features on Legacy 2.5i Touring Package with Technology option include Subaru's EyeSight driver assistance system, 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, a power tilting and sliding glass sunroof, stainless steel exhaust tip, steering-responsive fog lights, dual-zone automatic climate control, proximity key with push-button start, five-inch colour multi-information display and the Subaru Rear/Side Vehicle Detection System.
