SAINT-LAURENT, QC, Oct. 18, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - In front of an audience of more than 150 business men and women, the Mayor of Saint-Laurent, Alan DeSousa, delivered a stimulating and resolutely future-focused speech on October 17 at Buffet Le Crystal, as part of a luncheon organized by the Chambre de commerce et d'industrie Saint-Laurent – Mont-Royal.
While recounting the highlights of Saint-Laurent's economic and industrial development, on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of its incorporation, Mayor DeSousa emphasized the key role that business people have played and continue to play in this success story. "It is thanks to a series of innovations that Saint-Laurent has made giant leaps forward compared to other cities in Québec. We needed innovations and people to take advantage of them. Entrepreneurs, intelligent, hardworking, dynamic, creative, ambitious people like you," he stated. "You are in an environment that has been fuelled by innovation for more than a century. Use this energy and blow on the embers to keep this fire alive."
In line with the theme of innovation, the Mayor of Saint-Laurent reminded the audience that a Technology Showcase will soon be set up to assist manufacturing companies in transitioning to Industry 4.0. A project that the Borough is carrying out at the same time as its delegated organization, Développement économique Saint-Laurent.
In closing, Alan DeSousa spoke about sustainable development, a subject that has guided his actions since the beginning of his career and for which he has received various awards over the years from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, the Union des municipalités du Québec, the Canada Green Building Council, the Ordre des urbanistes du Québec and the Royal Architecture Institute of Canada, among others.
"As Mayor of Saint-Laurent, I have always wanted to make our community a capital of sustainable development in Québec. I have wanted to create a culture of excellence where sustainable development remains present in all decisions made by City Council," he added.
Mayor DeSousa concluded his speech with this invitation to business people: "Make sustainable development a competitive edge to attract talent, to stand out in your corporate values, to plan your future developments."
