EDMONTON, June 8, 2016 /CNW/ - Alberta Blue Cross will award four more $50,000 grants this year to communities and organizations across Alberta for projects that promote health and wellness, as part of its million dollar pledge to support active living across the province.
The grants are part of the Alberta Blue Cross Healthy Communities Grant Program, through which the organization is committing $1 million over five years to support and promote active living in communities across Alberta. This is the fourth year of the program.
"We have had a fantastic response to this program in the past three years from across the province, and we're glad to see that it's already making a positive difference in the communities we serve," says Brian Geislinger, vice-president of Corporate Relations with Alberta Blue Cross. Projects funded through the program in 2013, 2014 and 2015 included new playgrounds, outdoor community gyms, skateboard parks, a bike park and an outdoor sports court.
Community leagues, school councils, municipalities, seniors associations or other non-profit community-based groups or organizations in need of funding for relevant projects are welcome to apply. Priority will be given to projects that reflect a mandate of promoting active living and wellness at a grassroots community level, with a particular emphasis on children.
Funding for the program comes from the ABC Benefits Corporation Foundation, which was established by Alberta Blue Cross in 1998 in conjunction with its 50th anniversary.
Information, a list of past grant recipients and application form are available at www.ab.bluecross.ca. The application deadline for this year's grants is August 31, 2016.
