CALGARY, May 6, 2016 /CNW/ - Alberta REALTORS® are coming together through the Facebook group "REALTORS® Support Fort McMurray" to connect Fort McMurray residents who have been displaced by the wildfires with available housing options.
Over 1000 members have joined the group since it was launched Wednesday morning. The site is a mechanism for two groups to connect. REALTORS® and their network are putting forward accommodation options that are available to house evacuated residents. Evacuees are posting their circumstances to seek assistance and get connected with those who have available accommodations.
"Alberta REALTORS® are actively involved in their communities throughout the year, but we come together even more swiftly in times of need," says Ian Burns, CEO of the Alberta Real Estate Association. "REALTORS® know the importance of home and their work lends itself to a unique awareness of opportunities that may be available in a difficult time for our friends in Fort McMurray."
"The response from REALTORS® to the chance to help those facing unimaginable circumstances has been overwhelming. It would be our hope that all those who join this group in search of accommodations are linked with someone who can help them while they get back on their feet."
"Times like these show our strength as a province and we join everyone across Alberta and Canada in our support for Fort McMurray."
Alberta Emergency Services has been in contact with the Alberta Real Estate Association as work continues on coordinated efforts for evacuee accommodation.
The Alberta Real Estate Association (AREA) represents more than 10,000 REALTORS® and 10 real estate boards province-wide.
