"Alberta Rose" donut raises more than $360,000 for southern Alberta Flood Relief
Thanks to the incredible support of Albertans and restaurant owners, the Tim Hortons total donation surpasses $460,000.
OAKVILLE, ON, July 12, 2013 /CNW/ - Tim Hortons guests across Alberta purchased more than 30,000 dozen Alberta Rose donuts in just one week, with restaurant owners donating 100 per cent of the proceeds. Together with text donations and a $100,000 donation from Tim Hortons, the final tally for the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Floods Fund exceeds $460,000.
"We are truly humbled by this remarkable display of community spirit. We simply could not have achieved this level of support without our incredible guests," says Doug Anthony, Vice President, Western Canada, Tim Hortons. "We are also immensely proud of the efforts of our restaurant owners, who supported each other and their communities through this difficult time, re-opening restaurants as quickly as possible with a renewed focus not only on serving guests but on helping to recover, restore and rebuild Southern Alberta, including donating thousands of cups of coffee to volunteer recovery workers."
The Alberta Rose donut was available for sale from June 28, 2013 to July 5, 2013 for $1, with 100 per cent of the sales going directly to Canadian Red Cross flood relief efforts. Canadians could also support the Canadian Red Cross by texting "FLOOD" to 45678 to donate $5.
"We're so proud of the great response to the Alberta Rose donut," says Al Meyers, franchisee, Tim Hortons, on behalf of all Alberta Tim Hortons restaurant owners. "We have a strong community who came together quickly and selflessly to help our fellow citizens in a big way, and we're grateful for that."
