Alberta Securities Commission appoints new Director of Enforcement
CALGARY, March 27, 2014 /CNW/ - The Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) today announced the appointment of Cynthia J. Campbell as the Director of Enforcement.
In this role, Ms. Campbell will lead a team of more than 50 in the ASC's on-going efforts to effectively investigate and curtail breaches of Alberta securities laws. The mandate of the ASC Enforcement division is to protect investors and the integrity of the Alberta capital market through prompt, fair and visible enforcement action.
"With Cynthia's experience in leading effective teams of litigators and law enforcement officers, I am confident that she will enhance the effectiveness of our Enforcement division in carrying out its mandate," said Bill Rice, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the ASC.
Prior to joining the ASC, Ms. Campbell served as Associate General Counsel, Litigation and Administrative Law at Alberta Health Services where she provided strategic counsel on administrative law and regulatory proceedings in connection with hearings, judicial review applications and quasi-criminal prosecutions. Prior, Ms. Campbell held various positions with the Calgary Police Service, including Legal Counsel and Manager, Human Resources Operations Section.
Ms. Campbell received her LLB (Summa Cum Laude) from the University of Ottawa in 1997 and served as a law clerk with the Supreme Court of Canada. She was called to the Alberta Bar in 1999.
The ASC is the regulatory agency responsible for administering the province's securities laws. It is entrusted with fostering a fair and efficient capital market in Alberta and with protecting investors. As a member of the Canadian Securities Administrators, the ASC works to improve, coordinate and harmonize the regulation of Canada's capital markets.
