Alberta Securities Commission welcomes two new commission members
CALGARY, March 1, 2019 /CNW/ - The Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) is pleased to announce the Lieutenant Governor in Council has appointed Matthew Bootle, FCA and Gail Harding, Q.C., ICD.D., as members of the ASC, each to three-year terms beginning April 1, 2019.

"We're pleased to welcome them to our organization and I look forward to working with them as we continue to foster a fair and efficient capital market and provide strong investor protection."
Mr. Bootle has over 30 years experience as a financial professional. A former partner with Ernst & Young LLP, and a former Director of Accounting Standards and Director of Policy at the TSX Venture Exchange, Mr. Bootle returns to the ASC where he served as Chief Accountant from 1993 to 1997. Mr. Bootle received a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Calgary, where he is presently pursuing a Master's degree in Adult Education.
Ms. Harding held many positions at Canadian Western Bank Financial Group over the past 14 years including Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary. Previously she was an equity partner at Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP and Legal Counsel and Exchange Secretary at the Alberta Stock Exchange. She has several years of Board experience, including director and member of the Audit Committee with the Alberta Electric System Operator and the Workers' Compensation Board-Alberta. Ms. Harding received a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta and holds an ICD.D.
In addition to the new member appointments, Maryse Saint-Laurent, ICD.D, has been re-appointed as a commission member for a second three-year term expiring March 31, 2022. Kathryn (Kate) Chisholm, Q.C., ICD.D has been appointed Lead Independent Member for a one-year term to expire on March 31, 2020.
The ASC would like to recognize with gratitude the exemplary service of Ann Rooney, FCA, ICD.D, Brad Nemetz, Q.C. and Dr. Ian Beddis, each of whom will have successfully completed their second three-year terms with the ASC on March 31, 2019. Ms. Rooney also served as Lead Independent Member from July 2016 to March 2019.
Members act as the ASC's board of directors overseeing the management of the Commission as well as considering and approving changes to Alberta securities laws.
The ASC is the regulatory agency responsible for administering the province's securities laws. It is entrusted with fostering a fair and efficient capital market in Alberta and with protecting investors. As a member of the Canadian Securities Administrators, the ASC works to improve, coordinate and harmonize the regulation of Canada's capital markets.
