Albertans embrace the spirit of giving
EDMONTON, Dec. 8, 2017 /CNW/ - Between December 9 and 16, the Alberta Motor Association (AMA) is coming together with its nearly one-million members for Fill our Fleet, in support of food banks across the province. Non-perishable food donations and monetary gifts can be made at any AMA centre, as well as online, to help make the season brighter for those in need.
"Albertans support one another; it's just what we do," says Jeff Kasbrick, vice-president of government and stakeholder relations for AMA. "Donating to local food banks through AMA is an easy way of showing you care, and letting fellow Albertans know they're not alone."
In recent years, AMA has raised nearly $400,000 and 100,000 lbs of food for Alberta food banks. For 2017, in addition to donations raised by employees and members, AMA will make a stand-alone gift to the food bank, to be announced at a cheque presentation event in Edmonton on December 18.
AMA is also earmarking more than $15,000 for Community Acts of Kindness by its employees during the Fill our Fleet campaign. Staff at each AMA centre decide on an act of kindness that would be most meaningful in their community and then work together to make a difference. From serving meals at low-income schools, to making care packages for women's shelters, to feeding the hungry, it's about empowering staff to give back in meaningful ways.
"Faced with a lot of choice during the holidays, Albertans often ask what they should donate: their money, food or time," says Kasbrick. "The truth is, the province's non-profits and food banks need all three. What matters most is that you give if you're able."
