Alcan Cable qualifies for Green Supplier Network
ATLANTA, GA, Nov. 4 /CNW Telbec/ - Alcan Cable, a business of Rio Tinto, successfully completed the Green Suppliers Network audit at its Williamsport, PA plant using Clean and Green principles to reduce the environmental impact of its cable manufacturing process. The project was compatible with Rio Tinto's sustainability goals and existing company initiatives.

The Alcan Cable Williamsport team started the project in February 2009 and achieved Green Supplier Status in October 2010. The Williamsport team reported 94.7 per cent material efficiency and 1.7 per cent average waste, with a desire for further improvements in the future.
The Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program (PennTAP) at Penn State university acted as the team's certified auditor and coach for the project. The project was also coordinated with the Green Supplier Network Pollution Prevention Division.
Working in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) established the Green Suppliers Network to help small and medium-sized manufacturers stay competitive and profitable while reducing their impact on the environment.
