Alexander Keith's Nova Scotia Brewery welcomes Brewmaster and invites community to rediscover the historic landmark
New brews to be introduced and shared with the community on June 16, 2016
HALIFAX, June 1, 2016 /CNW/ - The Alexander Keith's brewery on Lower Water Street is firing up the brew kettles with a newly appointed brewmaster at the helm. Brewmaster Stefan Gagliardi joins the team bringing a small-batch brewing approach to creating locally-inspired beer that celebrate the people, history and heritage of Nova Scotia.
"Being named brewmaster for such an iconic brewery is an incredible honour," says Gagliardi, who has been working in the beer community for over 10 years. "I'm excited to tap into the Alexander Keith's spirit of innovation and create new, great tasting brews that are as unique as the people who live and work in Nova Scotia."
Gagliardi's first creation, Cornerstone Edinburgh Pale Ale, is set to be unveiled at the beginning of June. Named for the cornerstone laid during the original construction of the Halifax brewery, Cornerstone EPA is symbolic of the brewery's solid foundation and its inaugural brew for a new era. The new beer is inspired by brewing techniques of two centuries ago in Edinburgh, where Mr. Keith spent time perfecting his brewing craftmanship in the 1800s. Colder temperatures give the beer a sweeter malt profile, and the late addition of English hops round off the beer's citrus and herbaceous hop aromas.
Beer lovers from around Nova Scotia are invited to try Cornerstone EPA at the official launch event scheduled for June 16, 2016 at Alexander Keith's Nova Scotia Brewery.
"Alexander Keith's is deeply rooted in Nova Scotia and I can't wait to celebrate with the community at the historic brewery where it all began," Bill Scollard, operations manager, Alexander Keith's brewery. "The launch party on June 16 will bring together all the things we love about Atlantic Canada – good friends, good food and good beer."
In addition to hiring a dedicated brewmaster, the historic brewery has been refurbished to accommodate small-batch brewing, a new tour experience, and a full calendar of events. The seasonal and limited edition beers crafted at the brewery will be sold in kegs, growlers, 650 ml bottles, and six-pack bottles, onsite at the Lower Water Street location, through the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation, and in select bars and restaurants throughout the province. New brews will be unveiled throughout the year.
