Alexandria Moulding Employees Join Steelworkers
ALEXANDRIA, ON, Sept. 17, 2014 /CNW/ - Employees of Canada's largest wood moulding manufacturer have joined the United Steelworkers (USW).
An overwhelming majority of the 250 employees of Alexandria Moulding, in the eastern Ontario community of Alexandria, voted Tuesday to join the USW.
Alexandria Moulding employees manufacture and distribute wood mouldings, stair parts and other high-quality products for the new home construction and residential renovation markets.
The employees were members of the Christian Labour Association of Canada (CLAC) but were dissatisfied with that union. They voted by a majority of over 80% in favour of leaving CLAC and joining the USW, which represents thousands of workers in wood products and related sectors.
"We welcome these hard-working people to the United Steelworkers," said USW National Director Ken Neumann. "Each year close to 4,000 people across Canada join our union to build a better future for themselves and their families."
"These employees reached out to our union for help and support and that's what we will deliver," said USW Ontario Director Marty Warren. "We look forward to the coming round of collective bargaining with this successful company and to ensure the employees benefit from their significant contributions to that success."
