All five major banks supporting St. Michael's Hospital fundraising gala
TORONTO, Oct. 18, 2017 /CNW/ - To support a downtown Toronto neighbour's goal of becoming the premier critical care hospital in Canada, all five major banks have joined together as lead sponsors for St. Michael's Hospital's Angel Ball on Saturday, Oct. 21.
BMO Financial Group, CIBC, RBC, Scotiabank and the TD Bank Group have each donated equally as presenting sponsors with a total commitment of $1.25 million, in recognition of the hospital's 125th birthday.
The money raised through the Angel Ball will complete the fundraising campaign to double the size of the Slaight Family Emergency Department. These renovations will allow St. Michael's to accommodate its growing volume of emergency patients in a better-designed and more comfortable environment, reduce wait times and continue to fulfill its mandate as a regional Level 1 trauma center.
The Emergency Department renovation is part of a bigger construction and renovation project that includes building the new 17-story Peter Gilgan Patient Care Tower for critically ill patients.
"This is the best 125th birthday present we could have received and we are very grateful for the generosity of all five banks," said Frank Techar, chair of the board of directors of St. Michael's Hospital Foundation. "It's not every day that all five banks pick one good cause to sponsor equally and we will do justice to their decision by completing the renovations to the Slaight Family Emergency Department and providing faster, more efficient care for our patients."
