Episode 402 Recap
From the Pit Start in Jasper, Alta. all nine teams travelled by bus over 400 kilometres to Calgary. There, teams were greeted by Mayor Naheed Nenshi who handed them their first clue for the Calgary leg of the race. Teams had to search for the Wonderland sculpture where they found their next clue that led them to the Calgary Tower Road Block. In this Road Block teams had to rappel over 58 storeys from the top of the Calgary Tower down to the bottom. Stéphane and Antoine took the early lead, but Jillian and Emmett quickly caught up.
After completing the Road Block, teams then had to track down the Beatnik bus – a travelling music hub that moves every 10 minutes to travel across the city of Calgary – by asking a local for their cell phone and tracking it on social media. Once they arrived at the Beatnik bus, teams were presented with their first Detour of the season and an opportunity to race for two Express Passes. Teams Jillian and Emmett, and Steph and Kristen formed an alliance for both teams to search for the double Express Pass together and help each other out, but en route to the location, Jillian and Emmett quickly changed their minds and headed straight to the Detour leaving Kristen and Steph to search on their own. Upon arrival at Canada Boy Vinyl, Kristen and Steph searched through countless records for the double Express Pass, and endured endless worries before the pair finally found the passes and headed to the Detour.
At the Detour, teams chose between "sim" or swim challenges. In the "sim" challenge teams took a crash course in becoming a crane operator. With no instructions at all teams had to figure out how to control the crane simulator and navigate a weight through a tricky course with a combined time of under six minutes. In the swim challenge teams made a splash and found out what it takes to raise one million trout every year. After jumping into an indoor pond filled with thousands of trout, teams had to gather the fish into a small area and scoop them all into cages, ensuring no trout were left in the pond.
Teams then headed to Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre to find Jon at the Pit Stop. Jillian and Emmett arrived first, securing the top spot for a second week to win a trip for two to Paris, France with five nights' accommodation provided by Hotels.com. Kelly and Kate survived a high-stakes foot race against Rita and Yvette, and were spared from elimination after arriving last at the Pit Stop when they were advised that it was a non-elimination leg of the race.
