Allen Lane Canada acquires major work from Margaret MacMillan

TORONTO, Oct. 5, 2016 /CNW/ - Diane Turbide, Publishing Director at Penguin Random House Canada, has acquired Canadian rights to a new book by renowned historian Margaret MacMillan. Entitled Making the World Again: How Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin Built Peace out of War, MacMillan will explore how wartime leaders attempted to end the war and reshape the future in the midst of the greatest conflict in history.

Making the World Again will be published on the Allen Lane Canada imprint in fall 2020 and will be simultaneously published in the United States by Random House. The deal was brokered by agent Caroline Dawnay of United Agents, based in the UK.

"Readers of Margaret MacMillan know that she brings wonderful narrative powers to re-create pivotal moments in world history," said Turbide. "She's a master at showing how power plays itself out through the actions and words of idiosyncratic leaders. We are honoured to be publishing this long-awaited work by the great Margaret MacMillan."

Margaret MacMillan is a Canadian historian and academic whose bestselling books Paris 1919, The Uses and Abuses of History, and The War That Ended Peace have won acclaim internationally. Her book History's People was based on the Massey Lectures she gave in 2015. She has won, among other awards, the Samuel Johnson Prize (recently renamed the Baillie Gifford Prize), the Governor General's Literary Prize, the PEN-Hessell-Tiltman Prize and the Duff Cooper Prize.  She is currently the Warden of St Antony's College at Oxford University.
