MONTREAL, April 24, 2014 /CNW/ - Alliance Magnesium Inc. announced that it will actively participate to the upcoming Global Automotive Light Weight Materials event in London, UK on April 23-24, 2014.
This event focuses on 'Cost-Effective Mass Reduction for High Volume Manufacturing of Lightweight Multi-Material Vehicles' by identifying the right materials for the right applications. The participants include major players of the auto industries such as General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Volvo, Toyota, Land Rover and Jaguar among 20+ international OEMs and material suppliers.
Alliance Magnesium will be one of main sponsors and will present to the industry its business model and its ambition to become in a near future an important supplier of automotive grade magnesium.
"Given the potential global demand growth for magnesium sourced from regions with stable policies and business practices, and the abundance of the raw material from Quebec mine tailings, it is reasonable to expect that Alliance Magnesium projected 50,000 ton plant based on advanced clean technologies will satisfy a portion of the automobile industry needs and even see increases in capacity over the next decades", said Dr. Joël Fournier, President and CEO of Alliance Magnesium. It is a second participation of Alliance Magnesium to GALM, a first in Europe.
About Alliance Magnesium Inc.
Alliance Magnesium is a privately-owned Canadian company which has developed a patent-pending technology for the production of magnesium metal from serpentine mineral. Decades of chrysotile-asbestos mining in Canada have produced tailings of serpentine rock with 25% magnesium metal content, a highly valuable opportunity for metal extraction. This new process is an alternative to replace the Chinese Pidgeon Process, one of the main CO2 and sulfuric pollution emission source in the world due to its massive utilization of coal. Magnesium is a strategic metal for the Automotive and Aerospace industries to reduce average vehicle weight and increase fuel efficiency as well as reduce significantly greenhouse gas emissions from the automotive and transport industry. Most experts predict an increase in magnesium use in the medium term and, according to Clark & Marron, demand for the metal will grow by an average of 7.9% annually until 2019.
Alliance Magnesium has secured access to more than 400 Million Mt of tailings for its future operations. Its proprietary technology is patent-pending for 20 years protection and is an effective hydrometallurgical and electrolysis clean tech process that could bring a global paradigm shift in magnesium production, and will turn an environmental issue into an international economic success.
