OTTAWA, March 15, 2019 /CNW/ - Alterna Bank is proud to sponsor the 13th annual Mekong Business Challenge in Cambodia, bringing together the brightest university teams to showcase how their innovation can transform lives.
The Challenge is a platform for developing youth talent and for launching businesses and social ventures that will profoundly advance the communities in the greater Mekong region. Submissions this year range from innovative solutions to better the lives of those living with Parkinson's disease, to mobile apps that would boost the education and tourism sectors.
"I passionately believe in creating ethical leaders for the future, who focus on a social purpose while building on a business," said Rob Paterson, President and CEO of Alterna Financial Group. "The Mekong Business Challenge reminds me a lot of Enactus, an organization that's very dear to me. They are both about empowering youth, filling a social need and enabling progress through entrepreneurial action."
The winner of the Mekong Business Challenge will receive an all-expense paid trip to compete in the International Business Model Competition (IBMC), to be held in Utah, U.S., in May 2019. The IBMC is the first and largest lean startup competition in the world, with a mission to inspire and educate smarter student entrepreneurs who launch ventures that last.
At Alterna, we are committed to supporting communities and encouraging innovation. In addition to Enactus and the Mekong Business Challenge, Alterna also supports other young socially-minded entrepreneurs through various not-for-profit organizations.
