SHANGHAI, Feb. 28, 2013 /CNW/ - Now in its 4th year, the Asian Marine & Boating Awards has established itself in it short history as a set of awards worth winning.

For the first 3 editions the voting panel has primarily been comprised of professionals from the maritime media across Asia. This has successfully avoided any bias towards the advertisers with any particular publication or other media.
There have been suggestions that the nomination and voting process be spread to a wider audience, even to the extent of public nominations. While taking feedback, judges from preceding years already received lobbying phone calls and emails for this product or that company to be a nominee. They've even received requests so direct as, "How can we win an award?"
The decision has been made that public nominations could potentially open the flood gates to "friends" of builders, products, events and clubs flooding the judging panel with suggestions for inclusion in the categories, distracting the panel from the meaningful consideration of truly worthy nominees.
The award organizers are mindful, however, that, with a relatively small population of specialist marine media professionals in Asia, the time has come to widen the scope of our judges.
To that end, members of the lifestyle media will be invited to become involved with the Asian Marine & Boating Awards 2013 voting process as many printed magazines, websites and video media programming include articles about the growing leisure marine world.
It is felt that the increasing of judge numbers and specialties will also widen the focus of the awards.
The Asian Marine & Boating Awards are aimed at recognizing those category winners who, in the opinion of the judges, have reached the top in their particular category- though it should be remembered that people see different reasons for one thing being better than another. The increasing of the number of judges naturally introduces a further "smoothing" of any possible winners being anything other than, by consensus, the best in their category.
Although the China (Shanghai) International Boat Show is the largest boat show in Asia, it remains a show in the Chinese market. With that in mind, along with the fact that many outside China are unaware of the dynamic growth in her domestic leisure marine industry, the Asian Marine & Boating Awards aim to make a number of special awards to homegrown successes in the industry.
Winners may be considered for these awards for any number of reasons, but there will be one underlying factor that determines each winner. That is, quite simply, that in the eyes of the judges they deserve to be recognized for their efforts, their success or their impact on our industry either at home or abroad.
