Amerlux, along with SLL and CIBSE, to Celebrate "Night of Heritage Light" throughout UK on October 1st
OAKLAND, N.J., Sept. 30, 2015 /CNW/ -- Amerlux, along with the Society of Light and Lighting (SLL) and the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), have announced their support for the celebration of light during the Night of Heritage Light (NoHL) on October 1, 2015. The SLL and CIBSE have also announced ambitious plans to celebrate the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) International Year of Light and "light map" the UK. The event is designed to showcase the talents of SLL members and the lighting community, as teams of dedicated lighting designers will demonstrate the power of light on UNESCO World Heritage Sites across the United Kingdom.
"Amerlux is delighted to be involved in creating the 'Night of Heritage Light' and seeing these World Heritage sites in a way that no one has done before," says Amerlux President/CEO Chuck Campagna. "This project showcases the potential of light to present the world around us in a completely new way while demonstrating the versatility of lighting and its technology."
The Night of Heritage Light will illuminate 10 World Heritage Sites in the UK. Starting at William the Conqueror's Tower of London, the NoHL will work its way up the country as the natural light fades to include: Edinburgh Old and New Towns, Fountains Abbey, Liverpool Maritime, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, Ironbridge Gorge, Blenheim Palace, Blaenavon, Jurassic Coast, and Giant's Causeway.
"Lighting is an art as well as a science, and it's been really exciting and a lot of fun for us to participate in this event, alongside the SLL and CIBSE," continued Mr. Campagna. "We hope it will inspire the next generation of lighting designers, and remind others of the huge role lighting plays in their daily lives."
Combining their love of light and art, design teams will showcase the practical applications of lighting and how it can improve and enhance architecture. The event will spotlight UNESCO World Heritage Sites to bring additional recognition to these internationally acclaimed locations.
Liz Peck, President of the Society of Light and Lighting, said, "The Night of Heritage Light will be a great example of the whole industry coming together to bring the magic of light and lighting to the world. By combining light with some of the UK's most beautiful sights, we can capture the public's attention in a way that showcases the best that the lighting industry has to offer. We are hoping that this event will inspire people to look more closely at the part light plays in their everyday lives, from the street to their place of work. It's about inspiring the next generation of minds to make the great breakthroughs in lighting by thinking big and realizing the industry's potential."
